Retreat House

The 2.6-meter-wide, 11-meter-deep house stands on a long narrow site in the suburbs of Tokyo. Arii Irie Architects proposed a structure in which small floors, offset by half floor, surround a large central storage unit as a response to the client’s request for small house free from the stress of things. The height difference from the neighboring houses provide privacy while the depth of the storage unit separates the doorless rooms. There is no dining room or entrance, and the kitchen is the center of the house where the family gathers.

リトリート ハウス

細長い敷地に建つ、幅2.6m、奥行11mの住宅。物の雑音から逃れた小さな家がほしいという要望に対して、中央の大きな収納の周りを半階ずつずれた小さな床がぐるぐる取り巻く構成が提案された。半階のずれは隣家との視線を調整し、収納の奥行が扉のない部屋どうしを隔てる。視線の先に窓は設けず、窓からの光を受ける壁を設けることで、明るい奥が空間の先を予感させる。ダイニングや玄関はなく、街との接点となるキッチンが家族の集まる家の中心となっている。
