Miyajimaguchi is the town where ferries depart to Miyajima, the World Heritage Site Island in southern Hiroshima, Japan. Hiroshima Prefecture announced a competition to rebuild the ferry terminal. The concept of our proposal is quite simple: a gate to the sea. The elevated volume creates a view towards the sea and the island, which connects the urban axis from the train station to Miyajima. The space underneath the gate is the Terminal Square, a new public space where various events, tourist and local, occur. Above is the observation deck, which provides an elevated view towards Miyajima.
